Spotlight on Oak Tree School

Specialist education. Individual potential. One shared purpose.

After a something of a hiatus (whilst we’ve been working on exciting things) we’re delighted to publish our next school spotlight on Oak Tree School.

Specialist education. Individual potential. One shared purpose.

Oak Tree School in Winnersh is a warm, inclusive and aspirational setting where relationships come first, learning is personalised, and every child is valued and supported to achieve success on their own terms.

With a calm, purposeful atmosphere and a strong sense of community, the school promotes curiosity, confidence and independence, helping learners to build the knowledge and skills they need to thrive — both in school and beyond.

Oak Tree is a specialist school with a clear, ambitious vision: to provide the right support, in the right way, at the right time — so that every learner can realise their potential.

The school offers a rich and engaging curriculum tailored to individual needs, delivered by skilled and compassionate staff who understand how to nurture progress in all its forms.

Children benefit from:

  • High expectations and a consistent, structured approach
  • Teaching that’s both challenging and accessible
  • Integrated therapy and communication support woven into the school day
  • A strong emphasis on personal development and emotional wellbeing

It is a place where pupils feel safe, respected and understood — and where every success is recognised and celebrated.

Part of a shared commitment to inclusion

Oak Tree School opened in September 2023 as part of a collaborative project between Brighter Futures for Children, Reading Borough Council, Wokingham Borough Council and Maiden Erlegh Trust, to meet growing demand for specialist places close to home.

The school will provide education for up to 150 pupils from Year 1 to Year 13, (NB the secondary school is adding a year group annually), all of whom have Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for Autism Spectrum Condition, often alongside Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

Learning from and with others

Oak Tree School plays a key role in the Maiden Erlegh Trust Special & AP Hub, which works with schools across the region and offering outreach to support inclusive practice.

A values-led school, rooted in community

Everything at Oak Tree School is underpinned by the values of inclusion, respect and community. Staff, families and partners work together to build an environment where children and young people are encouraged to be themselves, aim high, and feel proud of who they are.

We look forward to seeing the Oak Tree School community grow.
