Team Talks: Andy Caldwell

As Head of Faculty for Creative Arts and Performance at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge Andy Caldwell has added something extra to his day-to-day role: leading the Intra-Trust Sports Programme across Maiden Erlegh Trust. Designed to bring schools together through sport, the programme has quickly become a highlight in the calendar for staff and students alike.

Q: Andy, why Intra-Trust Sport — what is it, and why does it matter?

A: It’s about creating more opportunities for students. We’ve been able to give more young people the chance to represent their school, try a wider range of sports and activities, and most importantly have lots of fun working with my MET colleagues and students.

Q: What has helped make the programme work so well?

A: The engagement and willingness of staff across MET. Colleagues have supported different events, taken turns hosting, and really embraced the idea. We’ve also had funds from MET to support us, which has helped enormously.

Q: What difference does it make to the students?

A: The feedback has been brilliant. Students love the chance to take part and represent their school, and staff enjoy coming together across schools. There’s a real sense of community at every event, which makes all the planning and organisation worthwhile.

Q: And where do you want to take it next?
A: We want to keep growing the programme. There is a great sense of community and collaboration across our schools, and we can’t wait to see what else we can achieve together this year.
