Student Stories - Oak Tree School Food Bank Donation

This week's Student Story is from Oak Tree School, where students led a project to collect food and essential supplies for Readi Food Bank. They encouraged their peers to get involved, gathered donations, and worked together to support local families.

The initiative brought together pupils, staff and families to support local people in need. Across the school, students donated an impressive 121.5kg of food and essential supplies, reflecting a strong sense of care and responsibility towards their community.

The idea was introduced after a parent volunteer from the food bank delivered an assembly to both primary and secondary students, explaining how their contributions could help others. Inspired by this, the school community came together to organise the collection and make a real difference.

Reflecting on the experience, one student said:

“Giving to the less fortunate can make both the person receiving and the person giving feel better.”

The experience showed pupils the value of empathy, generosity and teamwork and how small actions can have a lasting impact.

Congratulations to everyone at Oak Tree School for this thoughtful and inspiring project, and for showing what it means to work together to help others.
