Student Stories - Great Hollands Primary School Into Film Festival Trip
Our next Student Story is about Great Hollands Primary School, where Year 6 pupils took part in the Into Film Festival — visiting Cineworld in Bracknell to watch Kensuke’s Kingdom brought to life on the big screen.
The children had read the book in Year 5, making the trip a meaningful continuation of their learning. Seeing the story through film helped them explore themes of friendship, survival, and resilience while recognising how cinema can deepen understanding and spark creative thinking.
The Into Film Festival is a free, nationwide celebration of film for young people aged 5–19. For some pupils, this was their first-ever cinema visit, creating a memorable experience they’ll carry with them.
Despite a cold, rainy walk into town, the class remained enthusiastic — and the weather improved for the return journey.
One pupil said they “can’t wait until next year” and hoped their new secondary school would also take part in the festival.
Laura thanked Karen Wise for managing the parent communication and Chloe Barrett for organising the trip, ensuring all children were able to attend.
👏 Congratulations to everyone at Great Hollands Primary School for giving pupils such an inspiring experience and for connecting classroom learning with real-world storytelling.
