Community Champion: Sarah Beckett

Today we are recognising Sarah Beckett, Deputy DSL at Maiden Erlegh School, whose long-standing volunteer work with Daisy’s Dream has supported children and young people coping with bereavement.

Daisy’s Dream is a Berkshire charity offering free therapeutic support and group activities for young people who have experienced the loss of a parent or sibling. Sarah has been volunteering since 2020, helping raise awareness and encourage local fundraising. The charity was named Charity of the Year at the 2025 Pride of Reading Awards.

“The charity is important to me in two ways,” Sarah said. “In my role at school I have supported many young people who have benefitted from their service. I also lost both my parents at a young age and wanted to help others who have had life-changing events happen to them.”

Sarah explained that she began volunteering to bring greater awareness of Daisy’s Dream into the school community, hoping to encourage more families to access support.

“I am happiest when I am supporting others. Just trying to make a difference.”

The MET value she connects with most strongly is Work Together. “I couldn’t do it by myself. So many others have helped and supported this project.”

Looking ahead, Sarah will continue supporting Daisy’s Dream and hopes to create further opportunities for collaboration with Maiden Erlegh School.

Maiden Erlegh Trust thanks Sarah Beckett for her ongoing commitment to supporting young people and helping ensure families receive the care they need during the hardest moments in life.
