Student Stories - Khadijah, Year 9
Our next Student Story is about Khadijah, a Year 9 student at Maiden Erlegh School, who has shown remarkable focus and resilience on her journey to becoming a European Kickboxing Champion!
Khadijah’s Story:
Q: Congratulations Khadijah tell us about your recent achievement.
A: I recently represented Great Britain in the WAKO Kickboxing European Championships in Italy. After seven days of intense competition, I beat a Ukrainian athlete in the final to claim the gold medal.
Q: Other than your amazing win what made this special for you?
A: It was the first time I had been selected for the GB Team, and I was one of the youngest competitors there, as I was competing in the 13–15 age category.
Q: Did anyone help you along the way?
A: My coaches and my parents have been my biggest supporters. Peter at Nemesis Martial Arts has been my coach since I was five years old, and he’s helped me develop the skills and confidence to compete at this level.
Q: What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
A: The whole competition in Italy lasted seven days, so fatigue was one of the biggest challenges. It was also a mental battle, I had to keep getting my head up and reminding myself to push through to the end of each fight, even when it was tough.
Q: What have you learnt from this experience?
A: That I can push myself against some of the best fighters out there. I’ve also learnt to never give up on myself.
Q: What are you most proud of?
Winning. I wanted a podium position, and gold was such a great reward for all my hard work.
Q: Is there anything you would like to say to others?
A: My advice to others would be to work hard and never give up. Hard work will eventually pay off.
"Work hard and never give up. Hard work will eventually pay off."
We’d like to congratulate Khadijah on this amazing achievement and for being so inspirational with her impressive determination, focus, and perseverance. 👏
