Community Champion: Sam Clover

This Community Champion story celebrates Sam Clover, a SEN teacher in the Indigo Resource Base, whose work supports students to access the mainstream curriculum in ways that help them feel confident, included and understood.

Working within the resource base, Sam develops and delivers lessons that are carefully adapted to meet individual needs, while keeping students connected to wider learning. “Every child deserves to have a voice,” Sam said. “If I can help young people use their voice and feel happy and welcomed when they are learning, that is the foundation for everything else.”

“Every child deserves to have a voice.”

Sam’s approach places strong emphasis on emotional safety and belonging. He believes that when students feel settled and valued, they are better able to engage, explore and make progress. “Happiness is the first step to success,” he explained, reflecting on the importance of relationships and trust in learning.

His motivation is shaped by his own experience of school. “The support and opportunities I didn’t have motivate me to create a consistent and supportive environment for our students,” Sam said. “Being able to understand the journey each student is on helps me keep going.”

Sam also highlighted the importance of teamwork. “Having a team and a manager who trust me to work in the best interests of the children makes a huge difference. It’s an environment where I know my opinion matters.”

Reflecting on the MET values, Sam connected most strongly with Be Inclusive, pointing to the adjustments he makes in his teaching and the conversations he has with students each day.

Looking ahead, Sam’s focus is on ensuring the Indigo Resource Base continues to have the freedom and resources it needs to support students effectively. “If we keep giving Indigo the space to thrive, the outcomes will continue to grow.”
