Director of Special Education Hub

Neil Strain – 

Neil is an experienced education leader with a strong track record in special educational needs and inclusive practice. He joined Maiden Erlegh Trust in September 2025 and currently serves as Director of Special Education, where he leads the strategic development of SEND Hub across the Trust. His responsibilities include ensuring statutory compliance, driving inclusive teaching and learning, supporting schools.

His teaching career started 2007 and Neil has track record of leading Outstanding Special schools. He has led school SEND reviews, developed inclusive curriculum models, and supported multi-agency working to improve outcomes for vulnerable learners.

His qualifications include:
• Qualified Teacher Status (2007)
• Postgraduate Certificate in Inclusive Education (2015)
• National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (2024)


Neil continues to engage in professional learning around neurodiversity, trauma-informed practice, and leadership in complex educational settings. Neil’s areas of expertise include SEND strategy, safeguarding, staff development, and inclusive curriculum design. He is passionate about equity in education and ensuring every learner has access to high-quality support.

Outside of work, Neil enjoys mountain hiking and volunteering in community projects. He is an avid reader with a particular interest in historical fiction and educational research.
